awkward moments (per uzhe)

alright.  i know its been awhile so here i come armed with stories.

first up, a tale as tall as i am about encounters with coworkers.  i'm not sure how to start this, but i will say that i am deleting all references to this blog from my twitter account ;)

1. NO NAMES, PLEASE. (i swear this isn't gossipy)

lets say i've been dating this guy from work.  lets also assume that i live with my bosses friend (because i live in her old room).  maybe there was a day this guy i'm dating and i were canoodling on the couch when my roommate showed up.  usually not a problem EXCEPT when my boss walks in right after him.  NOT AWKWARD.  well, it really wasn't.  not until i pushed this boy away from me and the new comers hung out in the kitchen talking in low noises pretending we aren't there.  don't worry, i made my boss talk to me.  then she and my roommate PROMPTLY WENT DOWN TO MY ROOMMATE'S ROOM.  ugh, what??? hmm... they are good friends, but... i'm still thinking this over.

2. this next actually makes me really happy.

pan to a work party, no drinks involved (obviously they weren't free either).  drinks have nothing to do with this.  one of my favorite work people went around saying goodbye to everyone and when he got to me he did a weird half-handshake, half-hug approach.  i laughed and opted for the handshake (as that's what a guy would do, right?) but he mumbled something awkward about not knowing what to do in these situations, which prompted me to ask him if he wanted a hug.  best hug ever.  especially because after that i asked if he would be my mentor.  times like that make me happiest i'm a dork and am ok with being awkward.

3. house party

teamed up with the fellas upstairs and threw a party.  only my BESTEST of friends showed up (all other friends are fired).  apparently ONE OF MY BESTEST FRIENDS had awkward convos with both of my neighbor-friends.  hahahaha (at least that was the only comment i got back about them).

strata prep

(first virgin flight)

event 1: forgot business cards - greta suggested i use a crayon and paper towels

event 2: lunch on plane was cookies and hard boiled eggs. even the stewardess gave me one of hers! (good omen)

event 3: internet costs money @#*$ on plane! forgot to install matplotlib on compy before leaving home. can't test programs but did make significant progress in writing code.

bonus:
-looked through all books i have on external hard drive and they are AWESOME. chose 3 to start reading
-slept for a total of 3 hours. booya!

photoshop 101

(or how i learn to make an ass of myself)

i took a class on how to use photoshop. it is super duper fun to use! as in, when i was working on my masterpiece i was hunched over my computer cackling for a couple hours. mostly because the photo i made was highly offensive:
it might make more sense if you knew who all was photoshopped into the photo but steve zissou is now our ceo who also wears a fun cap (not as red though), next to him is hilary, then there is our todd who is short(er than average men) IRL, jehiah has a beard IRL also, then there are a few other very important people from work :)

this is what someone made of me!

what i've learned this week

the biggest thing i've learned this week is that i need to think before i speak. that, and i need to be around my family more because they forgive me for saying highly offensive/derogatory things about people.

i should remember that if i think something i say will need explaining, i shouldn't say it. most times when i talk, i just say words and don't mean any harm with them. either i will have random comments or it will be something i think is funny (which i'm finding out, most people don't. maybe its a west/east coast thing). maybe my family has sheltered me from what people should really say.

i know i joke about coming back from china more of a racist but that isn't a bad thing in my eyes. i now can see where people are coming from and that certain habits are part of their culture and not just to piss me off royally. but then again, i've never been one to be politically correct. i dont see the point. i never have any hate behind what i say. i think it is interesting that there are terms that can NEVER be used except for by certain people in certain contexts.

i dont want to hurt people's feelings! gah. i suppose this is my way of apologizing if i ever seem to be an ass or seem like i'm unthoughtful. and i appreciate it if you tell me that i am; i will respect other people's opinions about these sorts of things and do my best not to piss you off again (unless you really are a dumb-butt and i dont care about you).
